Firms bolster Open RAN advancement, tapping into their substantial technical prowess cultivated through extensive deployment of commercial-grade Open RAN networks.
Samsung Electronics and Vodafone, working alongside AMD, unveiled today a groundbreaking milestone: the trio has seamlessly showcased a full end-to-end call empowered by cutting-edge AMD processors, driving the innovative Open RAN technology forward—an unprecedented feat within the industry. This collaborative breakthrough underscores the companies’ pioneering technical prowess in enhancing the Open RAN landscape across the entire industry spectrum.
Conducted within Samsung’s cutting-edge R&D lab in Korea, the inaugural call was successfully executed leveraging Samsung’s adaptable, O-RAN-compliant, virtualized RAN (vRAN) software, fueled by AMD EPYC™ 8004 Series processors housed in Supermicro’s Telco/Edge servers, further supported by the Wind River Studio Container-as-a-Service (CaaS) platform. This comprehensive demonstration was aimed at validating optimized performance, energy efficiency, and seamless interoperability among the collaborative solutions.
This joint showcase epitomizes Samsung and Vodafone’s steadfast commitment to fortify their foothold in the Open RAN arena and expand their ecosystem alongside premier partners. A burgeoning Open RAN environment empowers operators to architect and modernize mobile networks with heightened flexibility, accelerated time-to-market (TTM), and unparalleled performance.

The companies will showcase test results surpassing 1Gbps throughput for multi UE on multi-cell configuration at MWC 2024.
